We are your no-nonsense, get it done, always got your back, tell it to you straight financial partner.

We work for you.  We are independent and aren’t beholden to a big investment firm nor insurance company. This means that we don’t have quota’s, we don’t have minimum account sizes, and we don’t have products that we are mandated to sell – we truly work for you and what is in your best interest.

Our Process

Our process is a flexible framework that adapts, evolves, and responds to your needs. It is the streamlined result of decades of working with clients.

Identify Objectives

1

It’s imperative that your goals are understood. Having someone help put those into tangible, measurable objectives is the first step.

Collaboration & Planning

2

Without active collaboration, an investment is a gamble, insurance can be overbought, and goals not achieved. Financial decisions made in isolation disregard the influencing factors of taxation, economic environment, regulatory changes, debt, and goals.

Which is why you can work with your accountant, lawyer, etc to help guide a strategy that not only looks good on paper but can withstand the realities of the real world.

Implementation

3

Annual Review

4

Each year, we benchmark your progress against the financial objectives you established. Many factors can influence the success of your plan – fine-tuning and monitoring are a key part of the process.

What do you need to know?

A financial advisor is your planning partner. We work with you and cover many topics, including how much you should save for retirement, should you invest or pay off your mortgage, the right types of investment accounts you need, the amount of insurance you should have for you, your family, and your business partners, the best way to efficiently leave your estate to your heirs, etc.

What types of services do we provide?
  • Investment advice: We offer advice on those investments that fit your style, goals, and risk tolerance and goals, developing an investing strategy and making adjustments as needed.
  • Debt management: We can create strategies to help you pay down your debt and avoid debt in the future.
  • Budgeting: We provide tips and strategies to create a budget that helps you meet your goals in the short and the long term.
  • Saving for children’s education: Part of a budgeting strategy may include strategies that help you pay for higher education.
  • Retirement planning: We create a saving plan crafted to your specific needs as you head into retirement.
  • Estate planning: We can create a plan and help you identify the people or organizations you want to leave your estate to.
  • Insurance: We find the right insurance solutions and options that fit your actual needs and of course, your budget.
  • Business Advisory: We help implement strategies for succession planning, sale of a business, retirement planning.
  • And much more …
What companies do we work with?

We are independent, which is a big deal to us. This means that we are not affiliated with a large investment or insurance company thus not tied to the proprietary products of one firm and not tied to minimum production requirements of one specific investment or insurance company.  We can unbiasedly tailor the investments and insurance plans to what is appropriate for your needs.

Investments – we have access to individual stocks, bonds, derivatives, commodities, and ETFs offered on the different Canadian stock exchanges as well as access to mutual funds from a multitude of investment firms. Click here to find out more on our investment platform.

What are our fees?

We have different fees for our different services:

Insurance.
If you are an insurance client – there are no fees. The insurance company pays us once the policy has been medically and financially underwritten and the policyholder pays their first premium.

Investments.
When it comes to investment fees, many people wrongly assume that they do not pay commission fees, trailer fees, or advisory fees, when in actuality, they do. Regardless if you hold investments at the bank, do DIY investing, utilize a robo-advisor, or use an investment firm, there are fees – regardless if you see them or not. These fees are either fund level or firm level expenses: Fund level expenses are built into your fund whereas firm level expense (aka fee based) are completely transparent. We offer both platforms, whichever meets our clients needs best.

Planning.
If you are an investment client of ours on our firm based/fee based platform, we offer free investment and retirement plans.

Do we work with other professionals?

Absolutely. We think it is important that we consult with other professionals, such as accountants and lawyers to integrate all aspects of your retirement, investment and estate plans to achieve better outcomes than if each worked independently of each other.  Without open communication and coordination, the professionals you rely on could be unwittingly undermining the work of others.

What are the next steps?

We’re Not Out of the Woods

We’re Not Out of the Woods

A few short weeks ago, strategists and market observers published their annual outlooks. Almost universally, they were cautious by predicting that 2023 would be a tough year for investors. However, as January ended with one of the strongest monthly returns we have seen in years, the biggest question on everyone’s mind is: what is fact, and what is fiction? Did everything really get that much better over the last few weeks, or was that simply a technical short-cover rally?
